Actually, I'm all for getting rid of the rolleye emoticon. It's not used consistantly.

Some people feel they are using it to express sarcasm and others, well, they may be using as actual "rolleyes" which are, IMHO, very negative.

When someone uses it I immediatly think they are deriding the poster for his opinion. I've asked the person and have been told they are just being sarcastic.

There's one poster that uses them extensively throughout FT, and, well, I've always had a very negative impression of that poster because I was reading the posts as taking a superior attitude, as the rolleyes suggest to me. In fact, this person was simply being sarcastic about a situation.

Ask 4 people and you'll get 4 different answers about what means.

I say get rid of them.
