Couple other memorable ones:
-South African of Indian heritage. I've met South Africans before but none that were oppressed during Apartheid. He moved to the states (Sacramento) in the 80s and owned a liquor store. Had a lot of insight into what it was like growing up in Soweto. Was really nice - our food wasn't very good (on KE) so we raided the snacks he was going to bring to his kids who were visiting BOM before he arrived.
-Oxford educated MD from Ulsan, ROK. We talked about modern Japan-Korean relations (this was a flight from NRT-LAX). Was adament that the world not forget what Japan did to Korea.. and I don't really blame him.
-Sat next to an Irish kid (younger than me..) on his first ever trip to the US to attend a conference. Gave him all sorts of tips on where to go/see/eat etc. I gave him my email address which has my last name and I prefaced it with 'I'm sure it's a name you've heard quite a bit back home in Ireland' then he asked me what happened to the O' ... had to explain how the Irish couldn't get jobs etc... fun flight for the 1 hr it lasted.
