What airport would be most convenientto fly into from NYto the Tuscany region. Also, what aree good options if doing Rome and Tuscany.

I was hoping to aid a friend. He said he scouted inital fares to Rome for 1700 per person for next May but I thought that was way off. But trying to help him with fares to Rome and Tuscany.
