Miami Airport Holiday Inn, long story.
MIAMI-INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Holiday Inn, 1111 SO ROYAL POINCIANA BLVD, MIAMI SPRINGS was closed on 10/27/2005 due to lack of power. They did not inform reservations that they are closed and continue to show that rooms are available for booking.
I was overseas and made a rewards reservation online, after hurricane Wilma. My wife called reservations to make sure they were open and they confirmed that the hotel was open. So here I am at MIA waiting for the hotel shuttle. It did not showup and I tried to call the hotel and I get a message that the number is temporarily out of service. I should have gotten the hint from that. I call guest services and they try to reach the hotel and have the same problem. No, they did not have a cell phone contact either, so they have no way of reaching that hotel. So they suggest I take a taxi to the hotel and that they would reimburse me for the taxi if it is closed. When I get there, they have no power and they are closed.
So I call reservations again and ask for a different hotel. The Crown Plaza is full, they suggest a HI express and said show have plenty of rooms. I suggested they call the hotel and confirm they have power before I go there. Sure enough they are also closed due to lack of power. I asked the blue taxi to take me back to the airport and he says that he cannot have passengers going back to the airport. There was a night curfew in effect so I could not walk back.
I asked him to drop me off at a Marriott since I saw an airport shuttle from them while I was waiting for the HI shuttle. They did not have power either so I took the Marriott shuttle back to the airport and end up back at the airport two hours later and spent the night at the airport.
So, why can't the hotels let reservations know that they are closed?
How exactly do I get reimbursed for the taxi?
