Flying with my father in a wheelchair

My Fellow FlyerTalkers

Recently in Dec. 2004, my father had a stroke with a hemorrhage in the right hemisphere of the brain which causes left paralysis. He received 5 months of sub-acute therapy and now is in outpatient therapy. He now requires minimum to moderate assistance while transferring to and from wheel chair. His physiatrist okay'd him for travel, so we are planning a trip to Vancouver or Baltimore in May. I wanted to know what the procedures were while travelling with him in his wheel chair from check-in to claiming baggage at the destination airport. Are most hotels handicap accessible? We appreciate any information/tips/etc we can get. Thanks a lot.
