I think he's refering to the fact that it's an ADAPTER. Like how the airlines USED to have nonstandard headphone jacks, so you HAD to pay to use the airlines' product or buy/swipe your own from somewhere else. That sort of thing. Now that the airlines have standard jacks, makes life much easier.
