Will the FAs give me an EmPower adapter allowing me to charge my laptop (Apple Powerbook ^), or do I need to buy an adapter before the flight?
There are none to loan.... bring your own! You can buy them at any travel store, oftentimes at airports too. They come with two adapters - one for the UA-style socket, and also the kind that fits in auto cigarette lighters (AA uses that style). The latter is also useful when you're on an auto trip, and forget your regular power cord (happened to me!).
