I agree with you....flying in IMC is no fun at all.

I used to feel the same way, that I'd only ever fly VFR. Then on my third lesson "under the hood", I experienced the disorientation that you can get when flying without visual references. My first thought was "Holy Crap!", and my second thought was "I need to learn how to do this properly". Quite a feeling to have your body screaming at you that you are in a 60 degree banked turn and have your instruments telling you you're straight and level.

Flying on instruments is serious business. I have no plans to intentionally go jetting off into cloud, but I know I'd feel safer in the cockpit if I knew I was capable of handling the situation should it inadvertantly arise. The 3 hours of IMC training in the PPL course only scratches the surface, IMHO.
