1 hr 5 min AMS connect OK for domestic to Intl ?
My question in brief for those familiar with intl. connections at AMS:
Is 1 hr 5 min sufficient connection time to connect at AMS (inbound flight is KLM metal from CDG, outbound flight is NW metal to SEA) ?
Fuller text:
First, I did perform a search; the only recent related thread I found was "Enough Connect Time in AMS ? Help", but that concerned the opposite type of connection I'm making (Intl-to-domestic vs domestic-to-intl).
I'm currently booked for a trip to Paris from Seattle on a combination of NW and KLM. My return itinerary is:
KL 1228 CDG-AMS 0900 1025 (737)
NW 33 AMS-SEA 1130 1300 (A330)
My past European travel experience consists of a dozen trips from the US into LHR but no connections within the EU, and I've never been to Schiphol (I do fly 100K yearly within the US, nearly always with a connection). Since my return itinerary above involves a connection from a EU-domestic flight (presumably arriving into a Schengen area, if I have my EU aviation terminology correct) to an outbound international flight, my concerns:
- What sort of formalities will I have to complete for my AMS transit (ie, immigration control, security queue, transit desk for the international boarding pass, etc) ?
(Additional facts which may be relevant: I'm a US citizen on a US passport, am NW Plat Elite, and will be flying on a paid WBC ticket - Z fare).
- What sort of distance is typically involved for this transit (an estimate in "minutes of brisk walking" would be appreciated for this) ?
- And, in summary, although I've read Schiphol is a very efficient airport for immigration/security/etc., is this connection time simply "too close for comfort" ?
Also, a lesser issue: on my inbound SEA-AMS-CDG I'm booked on an AF-metal flight AMS-CDG ticketed as a KLM codeshare. What is the likelihood of success in standing by for an earlier flight on AF metal ? on KLM metal ? (I'm on a paid Z-fare ticket, and would be willing to take any seat on the plane forn this short hop if necessary).
Many thanks in advance.
