Yes I have done it before. The first flight may be ok, since the seat was held till takeoff basicly. The second leg you may have some one sit next to you since the seat was vacted when no one showed fo rthe first leg. I do it everynow and then when it is cheaper to buy a new ticket then make all the changes. Mostly when I was going to take the last fliight to go home, but now take the last flight out to go somewhere else.
