Tax receipt for donation of points or miles?

My lawyer tells me that donations of miles or points can be tax deductible when donating to a charity in Canada.

Has anyone done this? I have this to charities and I would like not to miss out on this tax break.

The question is how to value the miles fairly, either at the value the airline assigns to them (is it 1 cent a mile?) or the fair market value of the ticket?

I would like to hear from others who have done this successfully. Please share your insights.
