This has happened to me at a Travel Inn near Dover. I was due to be on a really early ferry to Calais and did not appreciate being woken up at 2am by the fire alarms. We all got down to the car park, and THANK GOD I had picked up my car key as it was freezing!! Whilst waiting I saw a young couple with a tiny baby who they were desperately trying to keep the baby warm. I insisted that they got in my car with the baby and I put the heaters on full blast. There were a lot of people standing cold in the car park, who weren't best pleased that we were warm and they were freezing their *private parts* off.

Anyway, the reason for the fire alarm? two drunk TWATS/IDIOTS/MORONS etc had decided they were hungry and had got out their portable toaster (who carries a toaster in their bag?) and had tried to make toast. Needless to say in their drunk state they burnt the toast and nearly set fire to their toaster.

I got back to the room just before 3am, and could not get back to sleep knowing that the alarm would go off about an hour later. At checkout the staff were very apologetic, and gave the full explanation as to why it had happened.
