I usually check 2 bags, a tool box and my suitcase. carry on my briefcase. Both bags get red priority tags. usually one comes out in the first 20 or so bags and the other in the last 20 or so bags. This is US and international airports. They get checked together so either security or weight and balance sorting gets them separated.
