It is neither the best nor worst hotel I have ever stayed, but is probably my least favorite of all my regular options on Long Island -- to include Long Island Marriott (Uniondale), Melville Marriott, Long Island Sheraton, Hampton Inn Commack, Holiday Inn Express Hauppauge, Holiday Inn Westbury. I realize that it is not fair to compare it to FS Marriotts -- but, the others should not be too much of a stretch.
PROS:
*Four Points Four Comfort Beds installed
*Room is larger than I expected for a standard room -- having been told that I was upgraded at check-in -- well, let's just say that it doesn't seem like much of an upgrade
*Free wired high speed internet in the room, wireless in the lobby
*Room comes equipped with microwave and refrigerator -- I don't know if all the rooms have this, but I booked a standard king room, and these items were listed on the confirmation
*Free "business station" -- including internet, color printing (it is in the hallway -- no separate room -- from the lobby to the guest rooms, so there is absolutely no privacy if you are checking anything personal)
*Complimentary beverages and snacks in the lobby -- free iced tea (tastes like the powdered kind -- typical for Long Island) and lemonade; pastries seem to be what was leftover from the continental breakfast buffet; fruit looked a little worn, but it may depend on what time of day you hit the table
CONS:
*It is a converted Comfort Inn, not new construction, and some of the furniture is clearly left over from the previous ownership (the pullout couch in my room is particularly worn)
*Walls are paper thin. There is no real option for sleeping in, as you will hear an inordinate amount of doors banging and the housekeeping staff pretty early.
*The hotel is not in a great neighborhood -- next to a huge off-track betting location -- and is only two stories tall. I was given a room on the first floor -- which means no windows open/blinds open. It seems as though there are always people walking through the parking lot.
*Limited channel selection on the television - yes, there is HBO, but only one ESPN channel and very few of the better cable outlets. Compared to other hotels in this price point, this is a minus for this hotel.
*No breakfast, drinks, concierge lounge or anything else like that offered (I am Platinum, if that makes any difference). Again, compared to the brand new Homewood Suites right across the street, or other comparable hotels in this price point (Hol Inn EX, Hampton Inn), this is a BIG minus. There is a free breakfast at the Hampton, with some hot foods, every day of the week. Here, the breakfast buffet is $11.95.
Overall, as a Plat with both Starwood and Marriott, this is not a very good choice for me. I get lounge access at the full service properties, and my corporate rates are about the same price. Saving $10/day in internet is not worth giving up free breakfast in the morning and appetizers and deserts in the evening. If I had no status, 4P would probably be a lot closer. But, if they want to lure more business travelers, they might start offering some perks to loyal customers.
I know that there are other 4P that do offer complimentary breakfast (to Plats?) -- i.e. Detroit and Portland East. I assume that this is at the discretion of the hotel? It would seem to me that if you are competing against the Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Fairfield Inn segment, then you would need to have a complimentary breakfast offered.
