Allowing for English not being their native tongue, I would still be miffed at the choice of "family-oriented" in the email because:

a) we're family, and we all have families

b) it presupposes that gay people have no discretion, whatever the management's prior experiences have been

c) we're paying customers

d) any concerns on their part could simply be addressed as "refrain from having non-guests" to your room, which could include other security matters, etc.

e) to me, "FAMILY" is a thinly-veiled reference to "if you're not straight, then stay VERY well hidden in the closet and we will still take your money."
Sheesh, some of you need to GET OVER YOURSELVES!!!

Response:

(a). Let's all sing Kumbaya! Amen, bro.

(b). Thailand is an extremely tolerant culture when it comes to gay/lesbian affairs. Take "Family Oriented" for what it is. The Lana Thai has a lot of well-to-do families that stay there with small children. The last thing they want to see is a patron escorting his scantily clad guest (whether it be male, female, or katoy) out the lobby in the morning during the breakfast buffet. There is no secret code in the manager's letter; there is however a language gap and the poor manager who wrote the letter thought he was wording it as un-offensively and kindly as possible.

(c). N/A

(d). Understand something about the Thai culture. Thais are not confrontational people they are soft spoken and polite. Using language as direct as you suggest would be considered too vulgar and hostile. It's not in their spirit. As it is, the manager probably felt bad about having to write the note, unfortunately there's a lot of western guests who act like idiots when they stay at places like that.

(e). OHHH PULLLLEASE! This is Thailand we're talking about, not Provo Utah!
