A trained assassin or terrorist could kill somebody fairly easily with a metal tape measure. A weapon called a garrotte is similar to a thin metal tape measure. This exchange just illustrates why the current approach to aviation security here in the U.S. is rather futile. There is no way that TSA can prevent all of the objects that a bad guy could use to harm people from being brought aboard an airliner.
