I disagree. It is easy to get a pilot's or FA's uniform, easy to create an ID that looks realistic enough to get by screeners, and there is no way screeners can keep up with all the variations in uniforms of new airlines as well as the older ones. Letting people who appear to be working crew sail through unchecked is a recipe for anyone bent on mischief to get through as well.
And how, pray tell, are you going to let working crew through but not let dead-heading crew through? Since dead-heading crew need not be sober, they might carry any number of things that in more lucid moments they'd realize were forbidden. Once though security, it is impossible to guarantee that they won't put their jacket down anywhere, etc., etc.
All in all, anyone who gets into the sterile area ought to be screened. If we're going to screen LOLs, babies, and the guy who restocks the vending machines, we should screen people who appear to be flight crew too. There are enough holes in the system already without creating new ones.
