I've known about this for years and always search by each day. I then combine any consecutive days that are the same price and book my room.
A couple weeks ago I did this at a Hilton hotel and had 1 night at $113 and 2 nights at $122. A day or two before I departed I checked my reservations and the 1 day had been canceled and the day added to the 2 day and the whole price adjust to the $113 rate. I thought WOW what great customer service. Fortunately I printed out the reservation. When I checked in the rate I initialed was for $113. When I got my bill that was not the case. Evidently someone had screwed up and now they tried to charge the two nights at $122. I took my reservation to the desk and politely explainend that I thought there must be some mistake. The desk person explained that was the rate I had reserved at and I explained that I wasn't the one that had changed the rate and that if she would like to get the card I initialed when I checked in she would see that I had clearly approved a nightly rate of $113. It was only after I repeated this for the 3rd time that she reluctantly got the card out and took it in the back office to talk with someone. She then brought it out and asked if my intials were my initials (Huh?) I noticed that someone else had hand written in the higher rate and initaled that.
I don't know why but it seems like I frequently have strange goings on at Hilton properties yet I never have any at Hilton Garden Inns where it seems like they can't do enough to earn my future business. Good news is there is a Garden Inn down the road a short distance so next time I will go let them make me feel like a welcome guest. ^
