Comcast reforms; lowers costs of static IP addresses

i don't know if the pricing is consistent or if it's available universally, but I just turned up new business class, static IP address capable service with Comcast Cable to my new house in Melrose, MA.

For those who run their own mail servers or are running dyndns stuff to get to their TiVos, personal VPNs or other public services, this is a godsend.

I'm paying $95 a month for their mid-grade business package (the first tier with statics available). 1 address was $5 more; 5 addresses was 10. There were other options, including more bandwidth, more IP addresses and hosting web/mail things, but I do that myself.

Comcast has poorly priced this stuff in the past, so this realignment is really welcome. As must as I want FIOS, it's not available, and their policy of cutting the POTS line as part of the installation is pretty stupid. So, as of the 28th, I'm a Cable customer for the first time in five and a half years.

Of course, I'm still a DirecTV customer, due to HD TiVo, but that's only a matter of time.

Timothy
