My BHM-ATL flight was a bit late tonight, it was supposed to get into ATL at 7:17pm, we got in at 7:56pm. My ATL-MCO flight was scheduled at 8:29pm. I made the MCO flight because I only had to go from A15 to T1.

I didn't turn my phone on until we landed in MCO and when I did I had a message from DL with a timestamp of 7:43pm saying that I will misconnect and I was put on the next available DL flight... tomorrow at 7am. No offer of a hotel, just a "sorry Charlie.... you missed your flight."

When I look at my SkyMiles account, I still see tonight's flight in my itins with a first class seat for tomorrow's 7am flight and a waitlist for tonight's 10:05pm flight.

Why would DL call me 45 minutes before the MCO flight when they could obviously see that the BHM-ATL aircraft was on the ground? I'm glad they didn't give my upgraded seat away!!

Another thing happened that I've rarely seen. We were being pushed back in ATL and the security video was already being played and they stopped it. DL they reconnected the jetbridge to let some late passengers on. So it does happen!!

The agent called you because that's the number that they have to call you at. They person in DL reservations is working a queue that comes came up with a flight (yours) that showed an illegal connection. While you may be on the ground, they had no idea when you would be at the gate, and quite frankly, it doesn't matter to them as they have dozens of other passengers that they are working on at any given time and don't have time to spend hours on just you.

Also, the person working this queue doesn't normally offer compensation. That's for the GAs and ground staff to offer. Their only priority is to reaccomodate (protect) you on another flight.

Not everyone gets this great service. Mostly because there is not a lot of time to call everyone. I'd be thankful .
