I am getting married soon on Grand Bahama Island's Gold Rock Beach. We've already had our Plat upgrade confirmed to an oceanfront lanai suite at the Westin at Our Lucaya. They have two golf courses, a nice spa, several types of tennis courts, very good scuba diving nearby, two infinity pools, and more. Rates can be found below $150 for a regular island view room, and then the Plat upgrade kicks in for a very nice upgrade. The Sheraton and Westin are sometimes found on the Cash & Points list, though the nicer Westin is there less often.
Flights to get to Freeport (FPO) are often below $325 on the east coast. I could certainly make some good restaurant recommendations, too. Among others, we'll dine at Luciano's, La Dolce Vita, and Simply Native (local fare) during our stay.
This is only slightly "outside the US," though. Very nice people on this island. I don't find Nassau to be as friendly and relaxing.
Does American Express still offer their promo for $250 in "honey money" for registering your Starwood honeymoon? I registered our honeymoon, but I don't see this offer on the website anymore.
