And how many itineraries will they let me waitlist? Like could I waitlist all the HNL bound flights for a certain day? This way, if one later clears, I wouldn't have to pay the $50 per person change fee (kind of nasty when it's times five).
I was told that in order to waitlist without a fee, you had to have some of the segments confirmed. Remember that a waitlist may never clear. My husband was waitlisted out of OGG in first class. The first class segment from Maui to LAX never cleared. He sat in coach to LAX and first class for the rest of the itinerary. They do debit the entire mileage requirement however. I would never plan a trip around a waitlist.
