I'm plat also and I am 100% on upgrades on trans con 762's, 767's 777's and the old DC10's. If ya haven't flown BF in the new 762's or 767's I suppose 10,000 miles is well spent on a 5 hour plus flight from EWR to LAX. I always try to book the single middle row seat. But in my opinion the meal quality in BF within the USA is not what it use to be.

I have this funny feeling that in 2004 all upgrades will be harder to obtain and more costly. So with that in mind, I am using my miles this year on my flights to Honolulu to upgrade to BF. I'm not going to fork over an extra two bills on a HoKey fare plus 17,500 miles in 2004 to get to HNL or back in BF.

Bottom line your probably 80-20 as a plat. to get the free upgrade in my opinion. But 10,000 miles for certainty is not a bad investment.
