No more unlimited miles at Avis? Since when?
Hi,
I always rent from Avis - for years now - because they give a consistently low rate and unlimited miles. This past weekend I rented another car from Avis and when I came back to return the car, they said that Avis only gives compact cars 100 miles a day! I was pretty shocked, as when I rent from Avis it is always unlimited miles. I mean, I never even thought to check.
Is this a new policy for Avis? If so, as a long-time renter, shouldn't I have been notified? I feel like writing a letter to the company, because that sounds like a major policy switch, which cost me real money. The rental, which should have cost me $134, wound up costing me $194, but only because the manager at the rental location was nice enough to change my rental contract after the fact to a mid-size rental with unlimited miles. Had they charged me for the miles on the compact it would have cost me over $300.
The only thing that I had done different this time is that normally I rent from airport locations but this time I rented from an in-town location (White Plains). Was this a factor?
