I have both Amex card and a Diners Club Card for over 20 years. Main reason I got Diners Club and still have it is because Citibank waives the annual fee for me. If you have a Citigold account they will waive the Annual fee. Before the MC convertion Diners Club was like Amex was 20 years ago mostly a travel and entertaiment card as most retail merchants did not accept Diners Club. Amex was smart to get there card accepted by retail merchants. If Diners Club would have done the same thing it might have been a more main stream credit card and be where Amex is today as I think they rewards program is far better than Amex but bad choices on Diners parts and reality that people really dont want so called "Travel and Entertament" cards but want full fledge credit cards has lead Diners Club into accepting a MC converation instead of building out there own network.
