Well....there are some meanings to these things. I'm not sure about B6 but I learned from reading on FT that the reason America West is/was HP was because they used to be (or have some affiliation) with Hawaiian Pacific (or that's what they used to be called...I can't really remember).
Anyway, this was NOT a stupid question as I'm sure the answer if there is one (as to the meaning of B6) would be somewhat interesting to us FT people...I'm sure the rest of the country is yawning while we inquire!
These 'guesses' are from insiders at both airlines...it would still be nice to know for sure...
HP - America West chose this designator because of their major presence/hub in Phoenix (therefore, HP means 'hub Phoenix')
B6 - jetBlue chose this designator because it represents their original/current location at JFK (terminal 6) which was their first facility; suppossedly they chose this one over B3 which would have represented their first order for three planes
