Are they acceptable and what are their real disadvantages compared with taking a better grade of room at a cheaper priced hotel (e.g. a high floor Central Park view room at the Helmsley Park Lane where I have stayed previously) ?
This is an excellent hotel with a boutique-feel, so it's hard to go wrong no matter your accomodation level. Even in the lowest category room, you usually get free breakfast at Atelier with your rate, a visit (or two) to the Star Bar for a drink with the best bartender in NY, etc., etc.
The Deluxe room is an interior room. If the view really matters to you, then this isnt for you. The room itself is excellent and the bathrooms are great (seperate bathtub and shower...more Frederic Fekkai bath amenities than you will know what to do with).
City views are typically on the 6th Ave. side. You get a partial view of the park...but nothing like the direct Central Park views.
If I were you I would get the interior room and pay the supplement to get access to the Club Level. It is one of the best Club Levels in the RC system. The caviar presentation is a nice bonus on top of the other 5 food and beverage presentations a day. The original Samuel Halperts in the lounge make it even more interesting.
