I agree, or at least give one of the 2:
-either no fee for Platinums/Golds etc.
-or 'instant, when booking'--as opposed to a 'maybe' upgrade within 30 days of your flight!!

I can live with the mileage accrual changes, but it seems they are not giving anything in return.
