Last night we drove on down to Galveston from Houston to see BB King at
http://www.thegrand.com/BBKing.asp Click around on the link and see the entertainment venue regarding
The Grand 1894 Opera House. It's a great place.
BB King of course is legendary. If you have not seen him, see him soon, he's 80 and will not be here forever. I was fortunate enough to see Ray Charles about a year before he left us, so I make it a point to see these older performers before it is too late.
After the show we ate dinner at
Rudy & Paco. I think this might be Galveston's finest dining establishment. It is located at 2028 Post Office Street, Galveston, TX 77550. Telephone is 409.762.3696.
We did not have a reservation but just walked in after the show. I had heard about this restaurant, but had never made it a point to visit there, but since it was next door to The Grand, we just wandered on in. It was a late dinner, so we were fortunate to get a table.
Ambience was great. Food wonderful. Nice bar area too. It is Fuzion type fare with a Latin twist. We met the owner, Mr. Paco Vargas, and remarkably we know some of the same people from different countries we have traveled to in Latin America. It is indeed a small world.
After dinner we walked across the street to "21". This is a cigar bar. Great place to go after dinner & show to light up that occasional stogie.
A great evening. The nightlife area of Galveston as become pretty swank, which we were glad to see.
Oh! And BB King thanked God for sparing Galveston. He did mention how hard hit the MS Delta area was, and thanked Houston for giving such a big welcome to the Katrina evacuees. He also mentioned that two of his band members are from Houston. He introduced his grandsons, and a really old friend of his that is also a musician, that he has known for fifty years. He also talked about his travels abroad. I think BB King is a great representative of America.
I'm in Dallas/Addison now, for a seminar in conjunction with a convention, at a Hilton Garden Inn, where the internet is free
