500 milers don't get taken until the upgrade clears. If he sat in economy, he should call back until someone manually redeposits them.

Is it possible his upgrade cleared, but then some UGS or 1K added themselves to the list at the last minute? Or did the agent make a mistake? I really don't see how the 500 milers could get pulled under normal circumstances.
