The difference is between people you are likely to meet in poorer countries compared to richer countries. Whether in Thailand, or Romania, or Cuba, when a cute guy who is 15 years younger than I am approaches me chances are that he will be looking for the contents of my wallet rather than a meaningful relationship. And in Singapore, Norway, or Canada, chances are they are interested in me as a person. And I will be the first to admit that there are exceptions to this rule!
With all this said, why did you have doubt that the NTF was after your friend's money? This should have been obvious to you.
My question is, did your friend pay NTF in the end? I certainly hope so.
Don't tell us that your friend paid the bar fee, but thought the NTF was comming on to your friend, so your friend did not have to pay.
