The cynic in me says you probably get worse rates since DL has to get a cut.
[Edited to add:] I think AA has stopped asking this type of question now, but when they used to, the good EXP Desk agents would say something like: "I'm sorry, but I'm required to ask you if you would like to be transferred to Hertz, Avis, etc.," making it clear that they thought it was a stupid question too.
