I tried searching flyertalk and co.com, but I can't seem to get a clear answer to how best to get a companion listed for an upgrade.
I am CO Gold, travelling with a NW Silver on the same reservation. (We do not want to split the reservation, since we'd rather both us of were in coach than get split up, plus we don't want to risk losing our current coach seats.)
Assuming we do not get upgraded at the Silver window, what is the best strategy to try to secure upgrades for both of us? I would think that listing him as a Gold companion is the best way to go (higher priority than NW Silver), but can you do that using online check-in if you are checking in more than 2 hours prior to departure? Will the online check-in procedure even offer the option of upgrading or waitlisting a companion? Or is the best solution to get to the airport early and see an agent? I think the last time I tried to upgrade a companion was prior to online check-in, but if I recall even the kiosks were not helpful -- only an agent could put the companion on the list.
I'm a little confused by the intersection of EUA, online check-in and companion upgrades, so any advice would be appreciated.</font>
Companion upgrades are at the gate. IF you have PC access do it there. I have found better results that way. The earliest you can get on the list is 2 hours. Don't think its possible using online checkin.
