FWIW, from what I've read here on FT, I believe *A carriers will do status matches based on status with another *A carrier despite the "no poaching" rules. Granted, it's very rare, and generally it's only done in situations where an elite from one part of the globe moves to another no longer served by their carrier but heavily served by another *A carrier. I would have a hard time believing that UA comped 1K to a US CP, and I would also have a hard time believing AA would comp EXP.

As for the waste of status matches, I couldn't agree more.

All that being said, I believe the OP was told one thing by UA Reservations and now is being told another. That happens to all of us. Unfortunately, without documentation of who you talked to, when, etc., I truly doubt UA is going to believe you now. Good luck trying to get compensation in the form of a travel voucher. I believe you deserve it, but unfortunately no one at UA cares much what I think.
