But QF176 continues to SYD anyway, so they are going to be paying the fees when it gets there. So why not just go direct to SYD and send the BNE-destined passengers up on domestic flights? At least anyone heading for SYD on that flight (if there is anyone given there are two similar timed non-stop flights) would be at the right place.
Its not like it is scheduled to arrive before the Sydney curfew lifts.

Yes, it does seem crazy. Perhaps there were a lot of SYD-destined passengers on board and they can just leave the flight there and actually arrive early rather than have to mess about with missed connections? I wonder if they really take such things into account??
