The way to tell what you're going to get is this way:
If you enter a massage parlor and there is a "fish bowl" (glass-enclosed area) with women waving at you, then you are in a full-service MP. You pick the lady (they all wear numbers) and you go to the room, which has a nice bathtub and a large bed. The girl will run the bath, undress you completely and get in the tub with you. When she's satisfied that you are squeaky clean, she'll towel you off and then lead you to the bed.
You then engage in full-on intercourse. Massage is optional.
Depending on the place, sessions last from 90 minutes to 2 hours. They range in price from 1,600 baht ($38) at the nice but lower-end places to 5,000 baht ($119) at the upper end places.
Then there is the Thai Massage Parlors. This is also known as poor-man's yoga. Most places give you a pair of pajamas to put on - there is no nudity by either party and there is no sex. This is a therapeutic massage meant to stretch you out. I have paid as little as 180 baht ($4.25) for 2 hours - on the outskirts of Bangkok. In the center of town expect to pay 300 ($7.14) for 1 hour and 500 ($11.90) for 2 hours.
Also, there is no massage table. You are on a mat on the floor in a curtained-off section. There are usually people getting massages to your left and right, also curtained-off.
A few of these places blur the line and some girls will offer you a "happy-ending". But for the most part, it's legit.
