Comparing Bangkok to Hawaii is an apples to oranges thing. Hard to judge which would be "better" without knowing what you're interested in doing. Of course, the miles would be a lot better going to BKK.
I wouldn't book a ticket now for a trip next spring but if you do and the fare goes down, you can always get a credit voucher.
Thanks for the info.....we wanted to get Hawaii booked so we could get the upgrade applied, however for kicks I checked the BKK fare from ORD (we will fly through ORD) - and the fares were just about similar...not to mention a lot more miles and a route to burn SWUs. The cheap hotels were also very appealing.
