Lets also be realistic about this, there are some airports where if each person who came along that had a child got moved to the head of the "normal" line, some of us wouldnt get through these checkpoints for days. Where do you draw the line, one parent (well what about the rest), only mom's alone (what about dad's alone), children under 2, children under 7, 20 parents, 50 parents. Being a parent with a child is not rare and if they are all allowed to go to the front of the line it would become unmanageable. Maybe what is needed is a "special needs" line and they should work to get these people through faster, but not at the cost of everyone else.
I am NOT heartless to people with kids, but I also dont think I should be punished for either not having children or for not having my child with me (if I had one).
For the record I have nerve damage in my entire right side and standing for long periods of time is not easy for me, but I take my place in line, I dont feel I have a right to make others wait for me either. I know when I go to the airport I have that limitation and I prepare for it, a parent knows they will have their child with them and should prepare (perhaps check all their baggage except the diaper bag/kiddie bag, I cant believe it when I see a parent with a child and 1/2 their house in tow).
