I was in Bangkok at the Shangra-La for a week on business. At home I get massages from a therapist at my chiropractor's office (I'd be more comfortable if it was a male therapist, but the woman does a good job). The hotel had a placard in the room with a menu of massages. Since I was sore from my flight, I called and asked about the "Jet Lag Massage". I was told the normal massage area in the health club was closed and they'd send someone to my room. I got undressed and put on a robe, expecting it to be like I was used to, where you're not wearing anything but there is a sheet over you and only the area being worked on at the moment is uncovered. The woman arrived at my room, told me to get out of the robe and get on the bed. I thought she'd have a portable table, but no. She spent an awful lot of time on my butt and the insides of my thighs, then told me to turn over. That was when I pointed out that it was my back and shoulders that were the problem. She seemed quite surprised, asking "You no want massage *that area*?" When I assured her that I did not want "that area" massaged, she attempted a quite poor back massage, had me sign the bill (I left a big tip because I was so embarrassed) and left.
