I believe the program states that you need to redeem flight points with purchase points. I think Citi could technically argue that only a PP card gives you flight points and purchase points. All other cards just give you regular TY points.
Regardless, if you try to redeem flight points with TY points from checking, I think that you'll be severely disappointed because Citi just doesn't have their system set up that way. When you look at thankyouredemptions.com or you call TY Redemptions, they don't know about the difference between flight points and purchase points. I've asked the phone reps if they can see this difference, and they have no idea what I'm even talking about. They just see some total number of redeemable points. So it's not like if you call in to TY Redemptions, they can look at their computer, see that you have 5000 purchase points, 50,000 flight points, and 20,000 banking TY points and let you redeem those for a 50,000 point award. All they'll see is that you have 10,000 available points from PP and 20,000 points from banking.
You may have more luck with this, but I think it will unfortunately be quite a frustrating experience. Good luck though and let us know if it works out!
