I do this all the time. However, I would still go to Italy since you can do the long flight on UA.
not only do I plan vacations where I can fly UA, I also plan vacations where there is a Marriott property!
Since I don't do much Intl travel, we don't have much of a problem going anywhere in the US...but it is fun to visit new cities where there are new Marriott hotels, that are also near places UA flies to.
