My experience has been that it is not standard across any of the brands. It seems to be on a property by property basis. I have stayed at about 2 marriotts, 2 renaissance, and 1 courtyard property in the bay area, and only the oakland marriott offered the wired for business package. I made the same assumption you did and ended up with a $200 phone bill on my folio. Luckily the manager was understanding.
