You're missing the equivalent keystorkes in FF. <Ctrl> 1, <Ctrl> 2, <Ctrl> 3, etc sets the focus to Tab 1, 2 or 3. <Ctrl> T opens a new tab, and sets the focus on it. Completely intuitvie once you get used to them.
