Yes these were the "Mileage Saver" awards. The "Anytime" awards (70K miles each
) were, naturally, available any day you want to go.
I almost never use miles for domestic trips, so I'm not a good person to give you a feel for whether saver awards are historically "no chance in hell of ever using them for someplace you'd ever want to go," or not.
