Ooh boy! You just pushed one of my buttons. I just spend 3 days in and around Nippori while on a mini-mileage run in May. Cross the tracks into Yanaka and it is like you are not even in Tokyo any more. Cool and green in the huge cemetery area, old neighborhoods with tiny, gardened temples in every block. A short walk down to Nezu found the wonderful old temple and a nearby fresh-baked rice cracker stand that was to die for. I'm a fan!
