Sounds like your ISP has some routing problems so you'll need to put in a polite complaint. When you connect to the office via VPN, all your traffic is effectively routed by your employer's ISP who obviously doesn't have routing problems. Nothing wrong with this but just remember to stay within your employer's IT policy (in other words, don't do anything you wouldn't do at your desk) in terms of the sites you access as you're effectively connected to the office network.
