Left luggage at LHR: Pros and Cons?
In a couple of weeks, my wife and I will be flying from YVR to LHR, spending several days in London then going on to Cairo for several days. We will then transit back through LHR on our way to South Africa- all flights are on BA. As the first part of an extended trip we will have 4 pieces of luggage (I know, we should travel lighter) but it would be convenient if we could leave 2 or 3 cases at LHR until we return a week or so later- taking only what we need for London and Cairo in a single (carry-on size) case. So my question is: is it feasible to leave luggage at LHR to be picked up later. Although we will have about 8 hours transit time when we pass back through LHR, will it be a big hassle to have to retrieve the luggage from left luggage and then go to check it through to South Africa? Any idea how long this would take and if there are pitfalls in doing so? It would be nice not to have to drag all this unnecessary stuff to London and Cairo but I’m wondering what the costs (financial and non-financial) of doing so would be.
