There is no arrivals lounge in Terminal D. I have never connected from LH to UA in DFW, but I think you just clear customs with the luggage and can put it back right on the conveyor.

There is no sense in staying in Terminal D, even if it is nicer there. After you cleared customs you can not get back airside.
