I will be in Bali for almost three weeks with my wife. We've the first 9days planned out but have left the last 9 days open. And, we are looking for nice private villas or luxury hotels to stay in Bali. We would love to hear if anyone has discovered a new gem.

yes take a plane over to java and visit Borobudur, its the largest Buddhist sanctary in the world and you should not miss it. You can fly over in the early morning and come back the same day if staying in Java freaks you out.
If you stay then stay for three or four days at Amanjiwo or Losari Coffee Plantation and Spa so you can see the real Indonesia. It really is great. Hotel Tugu has a hotel on Java in Malang which is east Java, Amazing!
When you get back to Bali I would go to Amanusa which is the most underrated Amanresort in the world IMHO. It really has it all, the best beach, great rooms, wonderful food, and of course the service. Your not going to be happy with most other hotels or villas after the first three hotels your have chosen. If you need a driver let me know as I hire a wonderful person who will take you around 24 hrs a day if need be.
