This isn't correct. It expires 1 year from the day you booked the 1st and original booking.

As recent as a few weeks ago, myself including, was able to extend the credits past the 1 year period. They cancelled my existing reservation and issued a voucher, extending its valid dates for another 6 months.
Their policies might have changed since then.
I suggest calling back to see if you get another answer. I'd be polite if you get a, "No." I fly almost exclusively on WN and that might be a factor for them to extend my credits; it might not work for everyone else.

The only area where such exchanges are supposed to be permitted is thru the "Coupon Connection"...under the Community section.
Unfortunately, because you are new, you don't meet the requirements to participate in that forum. It's not suppose to be allowed on forums other than "Coupon Connection."
I'd give WN another call to see if they'll give you another answer.
